We at Holtzhausen believe that Clocks like Mountains are Icons of Beauty, Witnessing the Passage of Time.  Our base is here in the Boland, meaning higher country in relation to the ocean-surrounded by some of the most spectacular mountains the eye will see. Looking at these mountains looking at us,  it dawned on me that they have been bearing witness to our lives on this continent through the millennia. Not a word-just silent witness. Like a clock, standing quietly, or not so quietly, ticking away in a corner for 200-300 years.

News from the market place.
I saw three grandfather clocks for sale in an upmarket shop in Pretoria over the weekend. The sales lady insisted that the movements are from Germany. I noticed that the dials had no chapter ring and several parts were made of plastic. Even though the one dial had a sticker on it reading: "German Movement", closer inspection proved that these movements do not originate in Germany. They are bad impersonations fraudulently masquarading as the real thing. Advice: Visit Selva or any other movement supplier; enquire about the price of a movement and make your own sums. A big standard German movement retails for no less than R10, 000. Add to this timber and labour and you'll know whether you're looking at a cheap copy or not.

Holtzhausen Clocks and Music Boxes was established in 1974 as Tick Tock Time in Johannesburg.

Today this company still manufactures and trades globally in clocks, music boxes and watches of the highest quality only.

Herman Holtzhausen, son of founder Nic Holtzhausen, directs manufacturing, importing, exporting, marketing and after-sales.

We build our clocks at a rate of 40 per year. Each clock is numbered as one of a limited 50 per style and wood-type. You will also receive a certificate of authenticity featuring your clock’s number and wood-type.
